Honeymoon in Punta Cana

Honeymoon in Punta Cana

Over the last 8.5 years we’ve been together, Brandon and I have been fortunate enough to travel to several beautiful places. Our absolute favorite – hands down – is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  This is where B proposed on the beach in June of 2013 (see our proposal story here) and where we returned for our honeymoon in November of 2014.  The beaches are lined with palm trees that spread nearly the entire beach to the crystal blue water.  It’s absolutely breathtaking.

Only a short 3.5 hour plane ride from Atlanta, it seems like a completely different world.  The local people are extremely friendly and the native language is Spanish.  I took 3 years in high school (wayyy back when), but it is a relatively easy language to pick back up. Most of the resort staff in Punta Cana speak English which is quite convenient.

Our suggestion is to choose an all-inclusive resort as there are countless to choose from. This way there is no worry about spending too much on dinner or drinks. The only extra financial worry is tip money and if you plan to schedule any excursions.  B and I even prefer the next step, which is adults only.  It truly makes a difference when you’re wanting to relax without children screaming, running around, or splashing you in the pool.  Our choice resort, which is where we stayed on our honeymoon, is the Excellenece Punta Cana.

The service is impeccable and the beach is to die for.  There are activities throughout the day and into the evening, with a wonderful Broadway style show every night.  The Excellence Club is definitely worth the extra money, as well.  You have better beach access, a private pool area, hors d’oeuvres and snacks in the air conditioned Excellence Club throughout the day (which was great for taking a short break from the sun), and much more.

One of my favorite perks is that you never have to make a dinner reservation and can get priority seating within a few minutes.  Other resorts we have been to make you reserve dinner by restaurant, sometimes days in advance.  I feel that this can put a damper on the relaxation, as I am always rushing around trying to be on time.  The ‘no reservation policy’ really impressed and satisfied our taste, while adding to the overall relaxation of our trip.

{Left: horseback riding on the beach…right beside the hotel so you don’t even have to go off property // Right: the most AMAZING excursion…Pirate ship complete with crew in character the entire trip, snorkeling, sting ray encounter, and swimming with nurse sharks!  Highly recommended!}

Take us backkkkkk…
